She couldn’t do the job during her minstrel period. Yup true.

Yeah, I always found it kind of took me out of the fantasy when we focus on things like bathroom breaks and such. I think it should be common place among writers for that to be in between the lines.

On menstruation: My wife found a quote that blew my mind, and really put it in perspective for me.

"Anything men can do, we can do bleeding."

I think that’s a fair point on immersion—it’s less about whether those details belong at all, and more about how selectively they’re included or excluded depending on what the story is trying to foreground.

That selectivity is what I find interesting, rather than the presence or absence of bodily detail itself!
